If you want to feel the next generation of desktop experiences, try Adobe Air. It's former code name is Apollo. It will helps web developers to deploy Rich Internet Applicatios (RIAs). most developers can build Adobe Air Application by using their existing web development skills such as HTML, AJAX, Flash, Flex etc.

Features:

  1. Create desktop applications using HTML/ JS/ CSS.
  2. Support creation of transparent HTML windows, non-rectangular shaped HTML/ JS based applications.
  3. Applications can access and leverage local file system via File I/O API once installed.
  4. Supports running popular Ajax frameworks and many more..........

You can visit labs.adobe.com/technologies/air/ to download Adobe Air SDK and other resources. If you wish to use  a Editor, I think Aptana is the one that you are looking for. Check out the link to download www.aptana.com/air/
